On June 7, Peking University (a member of the Global MOOC Alliance), the Free University of Berlin, and the University of Tübingen held an online signing ceremony of a tripartite cooperation agreement on area studies. Bernd Engler, president of University of Tübingen, Monique Scheer, vice president of University of Tübingen, Verena Blechinger-Talcott, vice president of the Free University of Berlin, and Wang Bo, vice president of Peking University, signed the agreement on behalf of the three universities respectively. During the meeting, all three parties discussed exchanges among universities and cooperation on area studies.
Engler introduced the collaboration among University of Tübingen, the Free University of Berlin, and Peking University. He said over the years, the three universities have established a foundation of mutual trust and in-depth cooperation through various forms of exchanges and cooperation, including university-wide visits, student exchanges, and the establishment of the European Center for Chinese Studies with Peking University. Since all three universities are interested in area studies, this project is expected to advance the trilateral cooperation.
Blechinger-Talcott reviewed the collaboration between the Free University of Berlin and Peking University under the strategic partnership, including student exchanges, joint training, the Confucius Institute, and many other fields. She said the Free University of Berlin attaches great importance to area studies and this cooperation will become a new platform for research in this field.
Wang said Germany is one of the most active countries having exchanges with Peking University. Both the Free University of Berlin and University of Tübingen have achieved fruitful research outcomes in area studies. The new mode of cooperation among the three universities will be more conducive to cultivating Chinese and German researchers in this field and will help promote the development of research on area studies.
