SUMMARY OF THE CONFERENCE

On behalf of 

Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance

and UNESCO IITE,

we are pleased to invite you to the
2021 Global MOOC and Online Education Conference this December!

The Conference will follow up on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration of MOOC Development (2020), which recommended UN organizations, international and regional organizations, governments, universities and online education institutions around the world to deepen international exchanges and cooperation, accelerate the building up of infrastructure for communication, promote the openness and sharing of MOOC and online education resources, and jointly promote the setting of international technical and curriculum standards for MOOC and online education, joining hands to build, develop and promote MOOC and online education to better serve society.

Devoted to the theme “Together for a Shared Future — Leading Higher Education Innovation in the New Digital Era”, the Conference will share policies and practices in driving the innovation required in the new global digital era for the higher education sector, as well as to examine collaborative ideas and frameworks to build more open, integrative and resilient universities.

This year, we are excited to take this important conference directly to our international audience by going virtual (though, we will also be setting up a physical venue at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China)! The 2021 Global MOOC Conference will capture the interactive and collaborative spirit of the MOOC and online education, and will allow our global network to safely and conveniently connect with our livestream from home.

Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance

Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance (GMA) members are world-leading universities and platforms from across the globe. GMA is initiated by Tsinghua University and co-founded by 20 institutions in 14 countries across all six continents.

UNESCO IITE

The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) was established as an integral part of UNESCO by the General Conference of UNESCO at its 29th session (November 1997) and is located in Moscow.

(Sub-forum 1)

The International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI)’s work is closely tied to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Education 2030) in every respect. Relying on the advantages of Shenzhen’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector, UNESCO-ICHEI focuses on the need for digital transformation in developing countries in Asia and Africa.

UNESCO ICEE
(Sub-forum 3)

The International Centre for Engineering Education under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO ICEE) focuses on the major issues of quality and equity in engineering education, especially in developing countries. 

CRI
(Sub-forum 5)

The Center for Research and Interdisciplinary (CRI) was founded in Paris in 2005 as a convivial place at the crossroad of life sciences and exact, natural, cognitive, and social sciences.

XuetangX
(Sub-forum 5 & 7)

XuetangX, a MOOC platform founded by Tsinghua University in October 2013, is designed for research, interaction and achievement application of the MOE Research Center for Online Education. XuetangX is the deputy secretary-general organization of the China Association of Higher Education and is the official partnering online education platform for ICEE of UNESCO.

Politecnico di Milano is the largest technical university in Italy, with more than 42,000 students. The university offers undergraduate, graduate and higher education courses in engineering, architecture and design. Founded in 1863, it is the oldest university in Milan.

RWTH Aachen University
(Sub-forum 3)

RWTH Aachen University is a public research university located in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. With more than 45,000 students enrolled in 144 study programs, it is the largest technical university in Germany.

APRU
(Sub-forum 4)

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) brings together a network of thought leaders, researchers, and policy-makers across leading universities linking the Americas, Asia and Australasia to exchange ideas and collaborate on effective solutions to the challenges of the 21st century.

Thai MOOC
(Sub-forum 5)

Thai MOOC is developed by Thailand Cyber University Project from Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education Science Research and Innovation to provide open-access courses for lifelong learning in Thailand.
